Sinopsis:

Georgie McCool knows her marriage is in trouble; it has been in trouble for a long time. She still loves her husband, Neal, and Neal still loves her, deeply — but that almost seems beside the point now.

Maybe that was always beside the point.

Two days before they’re supposed to visit Neal’s family in Omaha for Christmas, Georgie tells Neal that she can’t go. She’s a TV writer, and something’s come up on her show; she has to stay in Los Angeles. She knows that Neal will be upset with her — Neal is always a little upset with Georgie — but she doesn't expect him to pack up the kids and go home without her.

When her husband and the kids leave for the airport, Georgie wonders if she’s finally done it. If she’s ruined everything.

That night, Georgie discovers a way to communicate with Neal in the past. It’s not time travel, not exactly, but she feels like she’s been given an opportunity to fix her marriage before it starts...

Is that what she’s supposed to do?

Or would Georgie and Neal be better off if their marriage never happened?

La historia relata cómo Georgie trata de mantener un balance entre su trabajo como escritora de comedias de televisión y su matrimonio, ella llega a tener que tomar una decisión en la navidad del 2013, si pasar con su familia en Omaha o quedarse trabajando para su nuevo show, al decidir quedarse en LA su esposo se enoja y se va con sus hijas.

Neil, su esposo es un personaje muy pasivo, él a pesar de que lo describen como alguien que nunca se ríe y muy serio, hace todo por hacer feliz a Georgie, vivir en un lugar que no le gusta, renunciar a su trabajo para cuidar de sus hijas, parece que es el único que hace sacrificios en su matrimonio, Georgie en cambio es muy centrada en su trabajo, sus metas, sabe exactamente lo que quiere y cómo conseguirlo pero al ser de esta manera descuida su matrimonio hasta donde ella piensa que es muy tarde arreglarlo.

“It's more like you meet someone, and you fall in love, and you hope that that person is the one—and then at some point, you have to put down your chips. You just have to make a commitment and hope that you're right.”

Cuando se van a Omaha, Georgie piensa que todo está perdido que su esposo ya no puede más y que "love might not be enough", todo el libro dura la semana en la que se fue su esposo con sus hijas y cómo ella lucha consigo misma reviviendo todo su matrimonio desde que se conocieron, por medio de flashbacks, los cuales están hermosamente escritos y muy realistas, hasta el momento en que se separaron esa navidad, personajes como Seth (su mejor amigo) y Heather (su hermana) lograron darle a la historia un toque de gracia y felicidad ya que en si Georgie y Neal no eran realmente muy agradables, a veces me estresé yo por el estrés que se manejaba Georgie,  me pareció que todo el plot fue una tormenta en un vaso de agua,  y todos seguían echándole leña al fuego, una pelea no debería destruir un matrimonio aunque si ayudó a que Georgie repasara todo lo que había hecho mal y empezara a hacer sacrificios por la gente que amaba.

“Whether it's enough. How does anyone ever know whether love is enough? It's an idiotic question. Like, if you fall in love, if you're that lucky, who are you to even ask whether it's enough to make you happy?”

 Rainbow Rowell creó otra hermosa historia, es una novela contemporánea con un toque magia, el libro trata  temas sobre la vida adulta como matrimonio, responsabilidad en el trabajo, hijos, divorcio y como Georgie lidiaba con la situación, la forma que la autora  describió el presente y el pasado  logró mantener mi interés, además el pequeño detalle del teléfono mágico hizo la historia mucho más cautivadora.
